The estate was established in 1876 by Louis Mandelli, the name deriving from the Lepcha language, a local dialect, meaning “Mary’s place”.Originally, Marybong was known as Kyel tea estate but was renamed following a merger with a neighbouring tea estate. Marybong is located near the town of Ghoom with the Tumsong and Lingia tea estates to the west, Liza Hill tea estate to the north, and Risheehat tea estate to the east. 285 hectares of its land is used for tea production with our Darjeeling Marybong FTGFOP1 considered the best of the best.
